Laser Hair Removal
Laser Hair Removal works by emitting energy photons directly to the hair follicles, whereby, damaging and destroying the hair follicles via heat administered to the area, but not harming the epidermis or surrounding area.
A medical professional will apply a gel over the target area and subsequently administer a series of continuous laser beams (of a specified wavelength for that particular area) to inhibit future hair growth.
While laser hair removal is effective in reducing the number of active hair follicles, permanent hair reduction is not guaranteed, and results may vary as per individual. However, impressive results are seen (70-90% hair reduction) in individuals who went through a continuous series of 6-8 sessions. The reason is that laser hair removal targets hair follicles in their active (anagen phase) and each session is designed to target the subsequent anagen phase, requiring each session to be 5-6 weeks apart for maximum results. Hair growth may be noticed, but these are no longer active hair cells. Instead, it is the root pushing the damaged hair out; in fact, the hair can be removed from its root with minimal resistance. Everyone can receive laser hair removal treatment except for individuals: with cancer (especially skin cancer), who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, have an active infection or herpes simplex in the treatment area, with a history of keloid scarring, are diagnosed with diabetes (insulin-dependent), with a history of epilepsy, or who taken Accutane in last 4 months.
